Scars! Scars! Scars!

IMG_0602.jpgIf you have read my about page, you will know I have three cats. Of the three, I have a very vicious one named Dexter. He can be a derp sometimes but I love him to bits regardless of him being a demon possessed cat (picture left). Anyway, I have a hard time getting him to cooperate with me when it comes to clipping his nails. As soon as I touch him, I will get scratched by him and that is it. Those razor sharp claws of his catch me and I end up with a cut, bleeding, and end up scarring. In some of those moments I think, “oh snap, he just barely missed me.” Then when I look and it looks like he just barely got the surface of the skin is when it starts to sting and a very small slither of blood appears and it’s like, “damn, I thought I escaped that.”

I’m not really the type of person who cares about having a few scars but when you look at my hands and arms closely there are scars everywhere. The culprit to 90% of my scars would be Dexter. The other 20% are done by the other two, mostly by accident when we’re playing or when Gizzy (Gizmo) decides to use me a diving board when he wants to jump on the bed from my arms. So yes, I have scars on my chest area as well.

Unfortunately, clipping his claws is a no go for me, no matter how many times I try I get scratched. Some of you would like to suggest taking him to the vets to have it done. Here’s the funny thing, even the vets are terrified of Dex, so they rely on me to wrangle him in order to get him to stay put for a few seconds. Once again, I’m that one girl that no matter how many times I get bit or scratched I will continue to try and cuddle with the cat/dog/bird/etc. In order for them to do anything to him he would be required to be sedated, so that would be risky to have done every time as he has kidney disease. We’ve already asked if he could get declawed but unfortunately it’s illegal here in the UK.

So my next plan of action will be to try and clip his claws one a day. I guess that’s better than nothing. I don’t know how well this plan will work but I will have to try! Before you go thinking or saying why not get rid of the cat since it’s feral/vicious/whatever. He never used to be like this before. A few years ago, he was involved in an car accident that nearly killed him but thank goodness he survived. So even if he is vicious, I’m just happy having him still alive and well enough to keep enjoying his life. I may be covered in scars but he has his own scars to live with too. I’m not complaining about any of it just going on a rant, because I can.

And this one below is Leo and he’s timid as hell. (He’s a bear)<–I don’t know why he’s a bear.IMG_0062.jpg
